Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of pre-emergence herbicides for controlling the weeds in potato crop. Among the herbicides used Oxyflurofen (23.5% EC) at 200 g ha−1 reduced the density of grassy and non grass weeds in potato crop up to the extent of 70 to 80% and proved to be more effective over the application of Metribuzin at 500 g ha−1, Oxyflurofen at 150 and Pendimethalin 1000 gha−1. The highest weed control efficiency was obtained with application of Oxyflurofen 200 g ha−1 during both the years. Significantly higher tuber yield (323 q ha−1) was obtained with application of Pendimethalin 1000 g ha−1 which was at par with application of Oxyflurofen 200 g ha−1 and 150 g ha−1 during both the years of experimentation.
