Effect of herbicides on weed control, vegetative and flowering characters in gladiolus cv. Punjab Morning

Present investigation was carried out at Model Floriculture centre, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. ten treatments, viz. atrazine (@ 1.0 and 1.5 kg a.i. ha⁻¹), metribuzin (@ 0.25 and 0.50 kg a.i. ha⁻¹), butachlor (@ 1.0 and 1.5 kg a.i. ha⁻¹), pendimethalin (@ 0.75 and 1.0 kg a.i. ha⁻¹), unweeded and weed free checks were studied in a randomized block design with three replications. the study indicated that the minimum count and fresh weight of weeds were recorded with the treatment of atrazine @ 1.50 kg a.i. ha⁻¹. the vegetative and floral parameters of gladiolus like plant height, spike length and number of florets per spike were recorded maximum in atrazine @ 1.00 kg a.i. ha⁻¹. Minimum days to spike emergence was recorded with butachlor @ 1.50 kg a.i. ha⁻¹. Fresh weight of spike and duration of flowering were found maximum in pendimethalin @ 0.75 kg a.i. ha⁻¹.
