Effect of severity of pruning on growth, yield and quality in soft pear cv. Punjab

Abstract

An investigation was carried out in the Department of Horticulture, Khalsa College, Amritsar. the plant material consisted of 13-year-old trees of pear cv. Punjab Nectar were selected from the Punjab Government Progeny orchard and Nursery at Attari, Distt. Amritsar. the investigation was planned to study the effect of severity of pruning (Heading Back) to a different sets of plants. Heavy pruning treatments (Heading Back 50%) found helpful in maintaining quality of pear fruits. Lightly pruned trees gave significantly higher yield. Heavy pruning treatments also increased total soluble solids, tS: acid ratio and showed decrease in acidic content in fruits.
