Abstract

Banana is a major fruit crop of India. The present study was conducted in Tiruchirapalli district of Tamil Nadu state in India. In this study, we have analysed water use patterns, cost of cultivation, productivity and profitability of banana crop cultivation. A total of 50 sample farmers were selected using random sampling method. The data were collected by survey method during the agricultural year 2019-20. A simple average analysis has been used in the present study. The results of the study clearly indicated that banana is a highly profitable crop in the study area. On the whole, banana cultivation was found to be having significant contribution to farm income and thus it can be a suitable option for uplifting the socio-economic status of the farmers. The government needs to gear up to provide proper help and support to farmers to handle their production and marketing problems.
