An experiment entitled “Effect of fruit thinning on yield and quality of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Amrapali” was carried out at the Navsari Agricultural University, Paria, (Gujarat) during the year 2023. This experiment consist three repetitions and nine treatments of different intensities of fruit thinning, viz., T1: one fruit / panicle, T2: 1 fruit / panicle with 50 % panicle remove, T3: 2 fruits / panicle, T4: 2 fruits / panicle with 50 % panicle remove, T5: 3 fruits / panicle, T6: 3 fruits / panicle with 50 % panicle remove, T7: 4 fruits / panicle, T8: 4 fruits / panicle with 50 % panicle remove, T9: control (no thinning), which were applied at the marble stage of fruit by using hand thinning method. The results revealed that the maximum fruit weight (327.60 g), pulp weight (201.36 g), stone weight (60.89 g), fruit retention percentage (68.81 %) and the lowest titrable acidity (1.93 %), maximum total sugar and reducing sugar content (25.28 % and 13.85 %, respectively) were recorded in one fruit per panicle with 50 percent panicle removal (T2). Whereas, the maximum total soluble solid (24.22 °Brix) recorded in T1. However, best yield and quality of fruits, satisfied by treatment (T8), retaining four fruits per panicle with 50 percent panicle removal which was given average fruit weight (198.60 g) along with a higher yield (15.76 kg/tree).
