Evaluation of different bio-stimulants on fruit yield and quality improvement in Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.)

Abstract

The overuse of synthetic growth regulators in chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) cultivation has compelled farmers to seek eco-friendly alternatives. The present study evaluated the effects of three organic bio stimulants, namely sea-weed extract, krishi tee and vermiwash on growth, yield and quality of chilli under open field condition. The field experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with 19 treatment combinations using two chilli cultivars (‘Chaitali’ and ‘MAHYCO-10’) at UBKV, Pundibari,West Bengal. The foliar application of Krishi Tee at 2% with two sprays significantly enhanced all horticultural traits. Maximum plant height (61.42 cm and 76.59 cm), number of branches (11.47 and 14.38) and early flowering (55.27 and 65.18 days) were recorded in ‘Chaitali’ and ‘MAHYCO-10’, respectively. Fruit numbers per plant peaked at 138.27 and 187.41, with corresponding fruit weights of 5.91 g and 6.92 g. Yields per plant reached 291.57 g and 469.27 g and per hectare 16.89 t/ha and 21.76 t/ha. Highest vitamin C content (69.24 and 56.28 mg/100g) and lowest physiological weight loss (31.18% and 37.53%) were also observed under Krishi Tee at 0.2% with two spraying. The results suggested that Krishi Tee at 0.2% is an effective bio-stimulant for sustainable chilli production with enhanced fruit yield and quality.
