Effect of method of planting, nitrogen application and time of harvesting on potato crop in central India

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to assess the influence of method of planting, nitrogen application and time of harvesting the potato crop in silty clay loam soil. The treatments consisted of (a) Duration of digging i. e. i.) (D1) 75 days after planting, ii) (D2) 90 days after planting, iii) (D3) 105 days after planting (b) Nitrogen application i.e. i.) 240 kg N/ha as basal (N1), ii) 160 kg N basal+80 kg. N/ha as top dressing (N2) and (iii) 160 kg M as a basal+40 Kg N as top dressing and 40 kg N/ha as 2% spray twice (N3); (c) Method of planting i e. i.) furrow method (M1) and ii) ridge method (M2).

The tuber yields and other growth characters were significantly higher in case of ridge planting than in furrows and by sprayi ng N than basal dose of 240 kg N/ha.
