An atypical isolate of the potato virus Y^c

An atypical isolate of potato virus Y from Kufri Chandramukhi pototoes in Simla was designated as PVY^c on the basis of symptomatology, physical properties, host-range and serology. The virus isolate could withstand dilution up to 1:1000 but not 1:10000; it was rendered inoccuous between 60–62°C and remained infective at room temperature up to 96 hr. The isolate could be readily detected by production of stipple streak lesions on leaves of Kufri Badshah and Physalis floridana which also reacted hypersensitively. This isolate was also transmissible non-perslstently through aphids (M persicae) without a helper virus in the source.
