Effect of time of planting and lifting on tuber yield of potato in the Shillong hills

Field experiments, were conducted at Shillong in 1978 and 1979 to study the effect of time of planting and lifting on tuber yield of two potato cultivars, viz. Kufri Jyoti and Kufri Khasigaro. The crop planted on March 5 & 15 produced higher yield than that planted on March 25. Tuber yield exhibited a consistant increase with the delay in lifting from 80 to 100 days after planting. Kufri Jyoti yielded better than Kufri Khasigaro. Kufri Jyoti performed better when planted on 5th and 15th March whereas, Kufri Khasigaro had an edge over Kufri Jyoti when planted on 25th March. Delay in lifting the late planted crop from 95 to 110 days after planting, was not beneficial.
