A trial was conducted at the Agricultural Research Institute, Quetta, Baluchistan in which the response of NPK fertilizer in five combinations was studied for three consecutive years. The application of 125 kg N, 75 kg P2O5 and 75 kg K2O/ha gave best yields and returns. Fertilizer application beyond this level did not improve the yield significantly. The use of fertilizers in all combinations was profitable. The cost benefit ratio ranged between 1:5.1–1:1.16. The contribution of fertilizers in the cost of production was 10 per cent whereas towards gross income it amounted to 30%.
