Abstract

A field study was conducted at Patna during 1979–80 to 1981–82 in a slightly alkaline alluvial soil, to compare the efficiency of various methods of urea application with ammoniun sulphate/calcium atnmonium nitrate. Application of urea 5 to 10 days before planting in furrows and pre-treatment of urea with soil for 48 hr before application increased its efficiency by 10 and 11% as compared to its application at the time of planting. Improvement in efficiency of urea was associated with greater uptake of N and K. Broadcasting of urea before 1st and IInd irrigation after the planting was inferior to its application at the time of planting.
