Efficiency of nitrogen applied through foliar spray and through soil application was studied. Nitrogen at the rate of 76.8 kg N/ha (40 kg N/ha at planting and 36.8 kg N/ha in four foliar spray at 10 days interval gave significantly higher yield, followed by nitrogen at 93.4 kg/ha (40 kg N/ha at planting, 40 kg N/ha at earthing-up and 134 kg N/ha in 2 foliar sprays at 10 days interval). Both the treatments exceeded significantly the mean yield of the 3 treatments receiving 120 Kg N/ha each through soil application irrespective of method and time of applicaion. The crop remained green for a longer period in the plots receiving nitrogen through foliar application combined with application, compared to control and the plots receiving nitrogen through soil application, particularly in the earliar stages of growth.
