Effect of haulms cutting at 95, 105, 115, 125 and 135 days of planting was investigated in potato cultivar Kufri Jyoti on tuber yield, number of tubers and tuber cracking, in field trials for three consecutive years 1978 to 1980 in Simla hills. The mean tuber yield and total number of tubers significantly increased from 204.4 to 358.6 q/ha and 34.5 to 47.5 × 108 (No./ha), respectively with the delay in dehaulming from August 4 (95 days) to Sepetember 13 (135 days). There was not significant difference in the percentage of seed size tubers (35 to 75 g) which varied from 40.9 to 46.7% of the total produce and cracked tubers 8 3 to 7.9% during 95 to 135 days of dehaulming. Bulking rate was most rapid at 4.8 and 52 q/ha/day between 96 to 105 and 106 to 115 days respectively. But on later intervals of 10 days each, it slowed down and varied lrom 3.9 to 1.6 q/ha/day only. Based on these studies, haulms cutting around 115 days (August 24) is suggested in Simla hills for optimum gains in seed crop.
