Abstract

Genotype-environment interaction in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) was studied for total tuber and seed tuber yield at two dates of harvest in 14 cultivars at 5 environments. Significant genotype-environment interaction leads to the analysis of phenotypic stability. Major portion of interaction was due to linear regression on the environment means. Higher non-linear component was recorded in some cases. The cultivars F 6787, C 2703, Kufri Chandramukhi, Kufri Sindhuri were found to be good yielder, most stable and their response to change in environment was low which was predicted through the study of regression (d) and deviation from regression (S2d). F 6787 had not only shown linear response and high mean performance over all environments for the production total and seed tubers at both the harvests but also showed better phenotypic stability. C 2733, Kufri Chandramukhi and Kufri Sindhuri showed their adaptability to favourable environments for seed tubers. Scope of production of virus free seed tubers is discussed on the light of the present experiment.
