Through a line × tester breeding method estimates of general (GCA) and specific (SCA) combining abilities, additive (O−2A) and non-additive (O−2D) Components of variance, proportional contribution of 18 parents and 72 hybrid progenies were made in F1 seedling and F1C1 tuber generations of potato. Nine traits in F1 seedling and eight in F1C1 tuber generation were studied. Study revealed significant differences among the lines, testers and hybrids. For all traits, SCA variance and the non-additive component of variance were found to be higher than the variances of lines testers and their additive component of variance. Lines showed greater GCA effects than the testers and influenced all traits except number of tubers per plant which was mainly affected by testers in both the generations.
