Abstract

Experiments were conducted during autumn 1978–79 and 1979–80 at 10 locations, on soils having varying levels of DTPA extractable Zn to study the response of potato to applied Zn. Significant yield responses to applied Zn were observed on soils having DTPA extratable Zn content up to 0.57 ppm. Applied Zn did not affect the tuber number/m2, however, it increased the average weight of individual tubers thereby increasing the tuber number in medium and large grades and as such the tuber yield. Application of Zn increased the concentration of this element in haulms during both the years of study. Uptake of Zn by potato varied significantly at various locations and increased with applied Zn.
