Comparative yield potential of seedlings and seedling tuberlets from true potato seed in Deesa (Gujarat)

Abstract

Transplanted TPS seedlings, first generation seedling tubers and whole and cut seed tubers of cultivar Kufri Chandramukhi were evaluated as planting materials. Large size (ca. 50g) seedling tubers and seed tubers produced significantly higher tuber yield (t/ha) and average tuber weight than transplanted, seedlings and 10–20g size tubers, whereas the number of tubers harvested/m2 were more when 10–20g size tubers were used as seed. Marketable size tubers from the transplanted TPS seedling tubers were found to be the lowest. Uniformity of the tubers harvested from different planting materials was statistically similar except for transplanted seedlings. Seedling tubers and seed tubers of 40–60g size gave the highest average tuber weight.
