Abstract

A field experiment was conducted for two consecutive years on sandy loam soil of Patna to study the response of potato varieties to N and to find out optimum doses of nitrogen to short (Chandramukhi and Lalima), medium (Jyoti and Bahar) and long duration (Badshah and Sindhuri) potato varieties. Each variety was tested at 5 nitrogen levels i.e., 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg N/ha. Overall highest tuber yield was recoreded with Badshah which was significantly higher than Chandramukhi and Lalima. Over two years, the response was observed upto 200 kg N/ha and increases in yield with increase in N from 150 to 200 kg/ha recorded were 26, 22, 40 and 23 q/ha in, Chandramukhi, Lalima, Badshah and Bahar respectively. The optimum doses, for different varieties viz. Chandramukhi, Lalima, Jyoti Bahar, Sindhuri and Badshah were 200, 190, 223, 300, 176 and 255 kg N/ha respectively.
