Potato yield and nutrient uptake as influenced by fertility levels at different locations in Meghalaya

Abstract

In a 2 year field experiment conducted at four locations in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya with potato variety Kufri Jyoti, maximum significant tuber yield was obtained with the application of 100 kg N 52 kg P, 50 kg K and 15 tonnes FYM/ha. Application of lime did improve the yield of potato tubers at two locations but it remained short of level of significance. Tuber yield response was found to be related to the available nutrient status, pH and texture of the soil. Phosphorus concentration of tubers, haulms and roots varied significantly due to fertility levels and locations while non-significant variation was found in N and K concentrations of tubers at different locations. Uptake of N, P and K by potato increased significantly with increase in application of nutrients. Lime improved the P uptake of potatoes without significantly affecting N and K. Accumulation of N, P and K by potato crop was found to be significantly and positively related (r = 0.864**) to the dry matter produced.
