Abstract

Major potato localities of north Indian hills and plains were surveyed for two consecutive years to assess the status of myconhiza in potato. A total of 1174 samples of soils and potato roots were collected. The soil analysis revealed that spores of three mycorrhizal genera, Acaulospora, Gigaspora and Glomus were present. Amongst these, Glomus was widely distributed. Besides, G. mosseae, G. fasciculatum and G. macrocarpum, G. tenue was also involved in potato mycorrhiza. The association of G. tenue has not been previously reported and hence this is a new report.
