Efficacy of different methods of fertilizer application to patato*

Field experiments were conducted on loamy alluvial soils at Morena/Gwalior during Rabi 1980–81 and 1981–82 to compare the different methods of fertilizer (NPK) application to potato cv. Kufri Chandramukhi. Tuber yields of same magnitude were recorded by broadcasting and placement methods of fertilizer application. Split application of N, ½ at planting and ½ at earthing or 2/3 at planting and 1/3 at earthing, did not influence total as well as seed size tuber yield significantly. Split application of N in two equal doses, especially for raising a seed crop, is advocated.
