Abstract

Infield trials at Central Potato Research Station, Shillong (Meghalaya) in summer seasons of 1978–80, all the herbicides and manual weed control measures reduced the weed population and drymatter accumulation of monocot and dicot weeds and gave higher yields than unweeded control. Among the herbicides metribuzin at 0.7 kg/ha as pre-emergence was most effective against weeds and gave maximum weed control efficiency followed by paraquat at 0.5 kg as post-emergence and alachlor at 1.5 kg and nitrofen at 1.0 kg/ha as pre-emergence. Uncontrolled weeds reduced the tuber yield by 12.7 to 26.6 per cent in different years.
