Response of different genotypes of potato to manipulated photoperiod

Abstract

Experiment conducted with 15 genotypes indicated that artificially extending of photoperiod upto 16 hoon significantly increased the plant height percentage of flowering plants, number of inflorescences, flowers, berries per plant and berry weight, but tuber yield per plant did not vary significantly. Interaction of variety and light as well as variety alone varied significantly for all characters except the berry weight. The highest number of flowers and berries were produced in P-305 where as P-501, K. Sindhuri, K. Lalima, P-1581, P-230 and P-421 produced only considerable number of flowers but limited number of berries per plant. Some varieties such as Cardinal, Patrones, P-1322, 720088 and Lalpakri responded to light poorly indicatina the need for more artificial treatments to obtain enough number of berries and true seeds per unit area as a pre-requisite for successful potato production from true seeds in Banaladesh.
