Abstract

Influence of topping at different days after planting (DAP) was investigated in potato during 1987–88 and 1988–89. Highest number of leveas, total leaf area, number of branches, number of tubers and tuber weight per plant were obtained when the plants were topped 30+45 days after planting (DAP) followed by the treatments 30+60 DAP and 30+45+60 DAP. Tuber yield was maximum of 32.32 tons in 1987–88 and 35.82 tons per hectare in 1988–89 in the treatment 30+45 DAP. The yield was increasd by 67.29% and 92.06% over the control respectively, in 1987–88 and 1988–89. The treatment 30+45 DAP was found most profitable (cost: benefit, 1:1.86) compard to the control (1:0.94).
