Abstract

The loss in weight, sprouting and spoilage was increased marginally by 3–4% with N application (50–150 kg/ha) over no nitrogen, irrespective of N-level and the trend remained so at 30, 60 and 90 days of storage. The minimum % loss in weight, sprouting and spoilage was with the tubers harvested at 120 days after planting (DAP) and muimum was with the tubers harvested at 80 DAP at all the dates of observation. These losses also increased as the period of storage prolonged. The sprouting and spoilage were more by about 2% in Kufri Bahar (white skinned) than Kufri Lalima (red skined) while the loss in weight was more by about 2% in Kufri Lalima than Kufri Bahar.
