Abstract

All the plant growth substances increased tuber number as well as tuber yield over control and this improvement was highest due to IBA-5 ppm followed by ethephon-10 ppm. These two treatments also resulted in higher proportion of large size tubers (>70 g). Regarding sprouting conditions, the plants raised from sprouts produced under sand recorded higher tuber yield, tuber number and proportion of large size tubers as compared to other two sprouting conditions. Multiplication rate (MR) was 22.6 times on weight basis and 55.5 times on number basis for ethephon-10 ppm and 6.6 times on weight basis and 8.8 times on number basis for normal planted crop. This study suggests the use of sprouts for increasing multiplication rate.
