Postharvest greeinng of tubers of potato cvs, Kufri Chandramukhi, Kufri Sindhuri, and Kurd Dewa under direct or diffused sunlight for 20 days resulted in a 10 to 18 fold increase in the chloropltyll content of the peel when compared to ungreened control tubers. The total glycoalkaloid content of the peel increased by 8 to 56% by the diffused light treatment, and by 26 to 75% by the direct sunlight greening. The greened tubers particularly those greened under diffused light, showed Jeu rottage than ungreened control tubers during room temperature storage over the summer at Jullundur.
