Under Tarai conditions of U.P. MS/82–638 showed its superiority in respect of emergence, number of tubers, tuber fresh weight/plant as well as medium size of tubers. JI 5857 proved quite promising since it produced highest vegetative growth, more weight of tuber per plant and at second place in yield/ha after MS/82–638. There were no significant differences among the various cultures for yield. Significant differences were recorded for ascorbic acid, specific gravity and dry matter content in tubers of various cultures. Kufri Bahar contained highest specific gravity while MS/82–797 contained highest amount of ascorbic acid.
