In an experiment during winter seasons of 1987–88, 1988–89 and 1989–90 at Ranchi, growing two rows of wheat between two ridges of potato, spaced at 60 cm × 20 cm, after earthing up gave an additional yield of 15 q/ha wheat grain and 21 q/ha wheat straw with no reduction in tuber yield of potato. This system also recorded the highest gross return (Rs. 38.310/ha) and net profit (Rs.18.910/ha). Potato+toria (3:1) intercropping system (growing one row of Toria after every third row of potato) proved uneconomical.
