Field experiments were conducted in brown hill soil (Palehumults) of Shimla and deep alluvial soil (Ustochrept) of Jalandhar to observe whether the optimum and maximum doses of NPK and yields are influenced by micronutrients. Different micronutrients (Zn, Fe and Mn) increased the response of potato to NPK fertilizers by 3 to 19 kg of potato tubers per kg of NPK, indicating better utilization of NPK in the presence of micronutrients. Doses of NPK for obtaining both optimum and maximum yields were higher in the presence of micronutrients in both the soils. Micronutrients increased utilization as well as demand of NPK by potato crop.
