Four promising hybrids viz. MP/90–74. MP/90–83. MP/90–94 and MP/91-G from a breeding programme were assessed for tuber yield, tuber drymatter, reducing sugars and ship colour and compared with the variety Kufri Jyoti and Frito Lay hybrids 1533 and 1584. The hybrids MP/90–83 and MP/91-G possessed comparable tuber yield. 2–4% higher tuber drymatter, appreciably lower reducing sugars, lighter chip colour and resistance to late blight than the variety Kufri Jyoti, Frito Lay hyrbids, though gave good tuber dry matter, low reducing sugars and light colour chips, but were poor yielders and susceptible to late blight.
