Abstract

Studies on phenotypic and genotypic correlatins and path analysis were conducted in a collection of 36 potato genotypes. Tuber yield, days to maturity and plant height had significant positive correlations with all the other characters except protein and sugar content. Tuber dry matter content followed by sugar content, average tuber weight, number of tubers and starch content had high positive direct effect, whereas days to maturity number of leaves, plant height and shoot fresh weight exhibited negative direct effect on tuber yield. The indirect effects of number of stems through tuber dry matter content and shoot fresh weight; number of leaves through plant height and sugar content; days to maturity through number of stems and number of tubers; shoot fresh weight through average tuber weight and dry matter; number of tubers through sugar and starch content; average tuber weight and dry matter; number of tubers through sugar and starch content; average tuber weight through dry matter and st.arch content, dry matter through starch content, days to maturity and specific gravity; protein content through sugar and starch content; starch content through dry matter and specific gravity; sugar content through starch and number of stems; harvest index through dry matter and shoot fresh weight; and specific gravity through sugar and starch content were positive and high.
