Abstract

Investigation for quick rooting of top-shoot cuttings of potato by indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) revealed that roots formed earlier with significantly highest magnitude of 38.41% by IBA: NAA (20:10 mg/L) after 7th day of planting. This treatment also gave comparatively better results for the other parameters like number of roots per cutting (24.5), length of roots (>4.0 em), dry matter percentage of shoots (11.97%) and roots (22.32%). Regarding time of soaking of cut-shoots into rooting hormone, 20, 40 and to 60 second soaking time formed roots in cuttings most quickly (100% in 11 days), while 5 second soaking time produced maximum number of roots per cutting (23.36) with maximum length (4.42 cm). For other parameters, 5 second soaking time was found better than the other treatments. Soaking of top-shoot cuttings in IBA: NAA (20:10 mg/L) for 5 second may be recommended for obtaining maximum roots in the shortest time.
