Three potato based crop sequences were evaluated over existing one (maize-wheat-cowpea) at Zonal Agricultural Research Station, Chhindwara (M.P.) during 1986 to 1989. The soybean-potato-okra crop sequence was found most profitable with net return of Rs. 22,540/ha closely followed by maize-potato-green gram giving Rs. 21,410/ha over non-potato-based crop sequence of the area giving lowest net return of Rs. 11,545/ha. The studies on fertilizer economy concluded during 1991–94 with soybean-potato-okra sequence showed that the potato should be fertilized with 100% NPK while succeeding crops of okra and soybean with 50% of the recommended dose of NPK to these crops.
In the experiment on inter cropping conducted during 1991 to 1993 with potato, the highest potato equivalent yield of 367.7q/ha and maximum net return Rs. 50,497/ha. was obtained with onion receiving recommended dose of fertilizer as compared to sole potato with net return of Rs. 38,674/ha and yield of 290.8q/ha. potato + fennel system was less remunerative.
