Evaluation of potato-vegetables crop sequences in mid-hills of Shimla

The performance of six vegetable crops grown after different dates of harvesting of potato crop was evaluated in the mid-hills of Shimla for two years. The potato crop was planted in last week of April and harvested on two different dates, i.e. optimum date (15th September) and 15 days before optimum date. The six vegetable crops (radish, turnip, carrot, spinach, methi and pea) were sown within two days after potato harvesting. Potato equivalent yield and the biological yield of the sequence were higher when radish, carrot or spinach were sown after harvesting of potato 15 days before the optimum date or when turnip, methi or pea were sown after harvesting of potato on optimum date. Harvesting of potato 15 days before optimum date facilitated raising of two crops of radish after potato thus, increasing the intensity of the sequence to 300%.
