Abstract

The N content, uptake and yield of potato cv. K. Jyoti was investigated with varied N levels along with organics and amendments in the Western Ghats of Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. The study revealed that increasing N levels correspondingly enhanced the N content and uptake in plant haulm and tuber. As high as 2.92% and 2.07% of nitrogen was observed in haulm and tuber, respectively with the application of N @ 240 kg ha−1. The highest N uptake of 47.7 and 97.1 kg ha−1 by haulm and tuber, respectively was observed with application of N @ 240 kg ha−1. The yield response of potato to N was not significant beyond 180 kg N ha−1. Application of lime plus 120 kg ha−1 of N and lime, FYM, bio-fertilizer along with 120 kg N ha−1 resulted in the higher tuber yield which were comparable with the yield obtained with 180 kg ha−1 of N.
