Improving ratoonability of winter harvested sugarcane through intercropping of potato and other rabi crops in sub-tropical India

Abstract

Results of field experiments on intercropping potato with sugarcane indicated that significantly higher number of shoots, millable canes and ratoon yield were obtained when one row of potato (Kufri Badshah) was intercropped in between two stubble rows of December harvested sugarcane crop as compared to February started ratoon sole, December started ratoon + wheat (3 rows) and December started ratoon + coriander (2 rows). But, it was statistically at par with February started ratoon sole, December started ratoon + onion and December started ratoon + garlic. December started ratoon + potato (1 row) produced 25.45% more ratoon yield than that of December started ratoon sole.
