Abstract

A number of rapid seed multiplication methods have been developed in potato of which multiplication from microtuber is very important. During 1999 and 2000, a total of 15,911 microtubers of eight varieties of potato were planted in net house. Four varieties i.e. Kufri Bahar, K. Badshah, K. Giriraj and K. Chipsona-1 had 57.1 to 69.9% germination in comparison of 24.3 to 47.8% in K. Jyoti, K. Chandramukhi, K. Chipsona-1 and K. Pukhraj. Data with regard to tuber multiplication showed the highest multiplication of 7.3 to 18.7 times in K. Pukhraj followed by K. Giriraj, K. Jyoti, K. Badshah, K. Chipsona-2, K. Chipsona-1, K. Bahar and K. Chandramukhi. Result also showed that germination and tuber multiplication increases correspondingly with the size of microtuber.
