An advanced hybrid D/79-56 (D49/1 × V Tn2 62.333) medium maturing high yielding, resistant to both the species of PCN and late blight, developed at CPRS, Ootacamund was evaluated during 1998 to 2000 for its degeneration due to viruses. Aphids did not appear during the entire crop period between April–August, and no apparent viral diseases were observed. The yield variations noticed were mainly due to the prevailing environmental conditions and the build-up of potato cyst nematode in the soil.
