Population build up of aphids on potato in Burdwan district of West Bengal

Abstract

In a study for determining the incidence of viruses and aphids, was conducted at District Seed Farm, Govt. of West Bengal, Burdwan during 1997–98 and 1998–99, aphid Myzus persicae Sulzer and Aphis gossypii Glover crossed the critical limit (20 aphids per 100 compound leaves) when counted together between first to second week of February. The highest population of both the species of aphids was recorded between end of February to first week of March. The highest percentage of viral incidence was of PLRV (13%) followed by MM (9%) and SM (8%) respectively at the time of crop dehaulming.
