In India potato is grown in North-western plains during winter and in Northern hills during summer. Vast areas in southern India are unsuitable for potato cultivation due to prevailing higher temperatures. To extend potato cultivation to these non-traditional areas/seasons, research work was started in CPRI to develop heat tolerant genotypes and understand physiology of heat tolerance in potato. This paper summarizes the work done in the Institute on heat tolerance in potato.
