The ‘on line’ factory performance of two recently released potato varieties for processing, viz. Kufri Chipsona-1 and Kufri Chipsona-2 grown in Meerut district of UP and Rampura Phul of Punjab validated their potential as chipping varieties. Cultivation of Chipsona-1 in North-western plains - an area unsuitable for production of processing potatoes - will not only result in reduction of transportation cost, but also enhance recovery of chips with lesser oil consumption, thus improving the quality and economics of chip production.
