Chlorophyll fluorescence induction kinetics in potato: Effects of water stress and high light intensities

Abstract

Changes in the fluorescence induction kinetics were seen in potato leaves subjected to water stress. The adverse effect of water stress was quantified in terms of half quenching time of variable fluorescence (q½), which was more in the stressed leaves compared to those under non-stressed (turgid) conditions. High irradiance levels also affected the half quenching time of variable fluorescence and the effect was more pronounced when drought and high irradiance factors were combined. The effective quantum yield was greatly reduced in water stressed plants exposed to high light intensities.
