Effect of power oil spray on transmission of potato virus Y by Myzus persicae Sulz. was studied. Spray of 0.5, 1, 2 & 3% oil emulsion reduced 100% virus transmission when viruliferous aphids were transferred to oil sprayed Datura metel plants after 2 hrs of spray 3% oil spray caused severe phytotoxicity. Spray of 2% oil emulsion prevented acquisition of PVY completely by aphids during their probings on oil sprayed plants. Besides, all aphids were killed with 2% oil sprayed on potato plants within a few hours. However, its effective duration was very short.
