Selection of superior parents and crosses in potato for developing cultivars suitable for early planting in U.P.

Abstract

Combining ability analysis of 120 crosses (24 × 5) indicated that genotypes CP3197, J11857, MS/90–512 and Kufri Bahar were good general combiners for tuber yield under early planted crop in plains of Uttar Pradesh. Crosses CP1588 × CP3197, CP1588 × MS/90–512, MS/92–2658 × MS/91–1325, SLB/U-125 × MS/91–1325, CP2334 × MS/91–1325 and MS/86–89 × CP3197 were found superior to others based on their significantly high progeny mean, high specific combining ability and high heterosis for tuber yield and its components under these conditions.
