Performance of processing potato varieties in Northern hills

Cvs Kufri Chipsona-1 and Kufri Chipsona-2 yielded significantly higher total and processing grade yield over the American cvs Atlantic and FTL 1533 and were statistically at par with Kufri Jyoti in the field trials conducted in the summer of 2001 and 2002 at Kufri, Shimla . Besides, both the varieties had higher dry matter (> 22.5%), low reducing sugars, excellent chip colour (score < 3) and resistance to late blight and, therefore, their cultivation in high hills can provide fresh potatoes to the processing industries during lean period in the plains.
