Abstract

Eight potato cultivars were grown in a field experiment with 4 rates of N in 4 replications to evaluate their N efficiency. Considering control yield without N, maximum and optimum yield and N rate needed for maximum and optimum yield. Kufri Pukhraj was more N efficient than Kufri Jawahar, Kufri Bahar and Kufri Sutlej because it produced higher yield with less N dose. Comparison of white and red variety in the maximum yield range of 440–475 q/ha indicated that Kufri Sindhuri was more N efficient than Kufri Jawahar, Kufri Sutlej and Kufri Bahar because it needed 194 kg N/ha to produce this yield level which was 65–80 kg N/ha less than the N rates needed by other cullivars.
