Effect of lime and kaolin reflectants in early planted crop of potato

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted for two crop seasons at Modipuram, Meerut to study the effect of reflectants in early planted potato crop exposed to supraoptimal temperatures in early stages of crop growth. The emergence rate index, plant height and number of stems were not affected by the reflectants viz. kaolin (1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6 % w/v) and lime (1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 % w/v) spray on the leaves. However, the ground cover was slightly higher in the reflectant spray treatments. The harvest index in reflectant treatments were higher at early samplings. Spray of kaolin @ 1.5 % w/v increased the total and marketable tuber yield over control.
