An experiment with three commercial varieties and three fertilizer doses was conducted for three years at Hisar. Total tuber yield was significantly higher in Kufri Bahar (309.1/q/ha) compared with Kufri Sutlej (209.3 q/ha) and Kufri Badshah (219.3 q/ha). Yield of >75 g and >50–75 g size tubers was also highest in Kufri Bahar. Kufri Bahar recorded higher number of tubers as compared to Kufri Sutlej. Increase in fertilizer dose from 100 to 125 and 150% of recommended dose (NPK) increased the yield of total, >75 and >50–75 g size tubers. Higher fertilizer doses (125 and 150%) also recorded higher tuber number compared with 100% of recommended dose. By the third year about 90 per cent (visual observation) of plants in Kufri Sutlej and Kufri Badshah showed virus like symptoms (lea curl, mosaic etc.), while it was only 5–10 per cent in Kufri Bahar.
