An experiment was carried out during winter season of 2000–01 and 2001–02 at Hooghly area of West Bengal to study the efficacy of plant growth promoting bacteria (PGP) on the growth and tuber yield of potato. Inoculation of seed tubers with plant growth promoting bacteria (PGB), viz. Bacillus cereaus and Bacillus subtilis before planting resulted in higher growth and tuber yield at both 100 % and 75 % of the recommended dose of N and P. Net profit also improved by using PGB.
